FUSED DEPOSITION MODELLING FINISHING OPTIONS

  • As-printed

In most cases, FDM Parts do not require any finishing. Since materials (filaments) are available in a wide variety of colours, the parts can be printed in your desired color from the offset.

  • Sanding

Sanding can be performed upon request, but due to the softer nature of FDM materials, FDM parts usually don’t require it.

  • FUSED DEPOSITION MODELLING SPECIFICATIONS

As a general rule, FDM 3D Printing is best suited for low-cost prototyping, where form and fit are more important than the function and aesthetics of the part. To help you decide whether this is the right manufacturing process for your desired part, our FDM specifications are as follows:

    • Layer Height: 0.1mm, 0.2mm, 0.3mm
    • Achievable Tolerances: 0.2mm

WHAT IS FUSED DEPOSITION MODELLING?

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is a 3D Printing technology widely known for its great material selection, accuracy, possibility to print large parts, and affordability. FDM 3D Printing machines produce one layer at a time by extruding thermoplastic filament onto a build plate. FDM 3D Printed parts are great for end-use, low-volume production, and for rapid prototyping. They also usually don’t require any post-processing.

FAQ

  • What is Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM)?

Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) is a 3D printing technology that builds parts layer-by-layer using a thermoplastic filament. It is a popular additive manufacturing process known for its versatility and affordability.

  • How does Fused Deposition Modelling work?

Fused Deposition Modeling works by heating and extruding a thermoplastic filament through a nozzle. The melted material is then deposited in a precise pattern layer by layer, solidifying as it cools down, ultimately creating a three-dimensional object.

  • How accurate are FDM 3D printed parts?

The accuracy of FDM 3D printed parts depends on various factors, including the printer's capabilities, the chosen material, and the design complexity. Generally, FDM offers acceptable accuracy for most applications but may not be suitable for highly detailed or intricate parts.
